THE HELPING HAND THAT REACHES OUT TO YOU !! |
| |
…ITS ROLE AND PURPOSE |
| |
The Counseling Service
aims to support the academic objectives of the school by providing help
to students who have emotional, academic and psychological difficulties
which may be disrupting their ability to study effectively. We recognize
no hierarchy of difficulty when talking to students and believe that
counseling is a process which can be helpful to people in all sorts of
situations. What matters is simply that you have a problem……and that you
want to try to sort it out. |
| |
The core activity of the
Counseling Service is therefore to offer individual counseling to
students presenting with a broad range of difficulties. Parents,
guardians and staff can also benefit from this service. However, anyone
who might benefit from specialist intervention or advice will always be
referred on to resources available outside school. Counseling is a way
of addressing problems by talking them through with someone who, whilst
supportive, is not directly involved in the situation. |

A COUNSELOR WILL ..... |
| |
Listen carefully to what you have to say.
Enable you to express your feelings.
Help you to explore and understand your difficulties.
Help you to try and find ways of managing these more effectively. |
| |
Although it may
sometimes be appropriate to offer advice or guidance the emphasis is
very much on enabling you to achieve change, rather than telling you
what to do. |

CONFIDENTIALITY |
| |
A fundamental principle
of counseling is that it should be confidential. There are some
exceptional situations when confidentiality cannot be guaranteed and
these are explained at your first session, but otherwise counseling
takes place under strict conditions of confidentiality and nothing you
discuss will be disclosed to anyone without your permission. |

The middle school team
comprises of two counselors , one for the smaller classes (4 - 6 ) and
the other for the (7 -10).The counselors are trained and experienced
professionals who are committed to help the students in all areas of
concern. Counseling is offered on personal request or when students are
