Our Supervisor

In the year 2002 Mrs. Sangeeta Sheel accepted the responsibility of ‘Administrator’ following Br. Sabino D’Souza moving on to Bajpai. This was in keeping with the Christian Brother’s policy of empowering more lay people to run their schools and to be supervisors also. At the time Mrs. Sheel had been teaching for 15years . She is a highly qualified popular maths teacher and continues to find time to teach her maths classes.

She came to the chair with a vision and this is what she has to say; “ I wanted to raise our academic standards but I wanted it done in an atmosphere of joy” . To this end she went about motivating teachers to work as a team. Not an easy task with a staff of 70 men and women of mixed ability and commitment.

Discipline was a high priority and empowering students through student representative councils and democratically selected Prefects to monitor the 1700 plus students of a volatile Middle Section is still in its initial stages and only time will show how effective these measures have been. Introducing warning cards counterbalanced with a liberal dispensation of appreciation cards have both been a deterrent to unacceptable behaviour. Corporal punishment is not a part of the discipline policy and is frowned upon. As a result there is a happy atmosphere prevailing today.

Value education which includes Justice Education and Peace Education forms the core of the value system in the middle section. Two periods per class per week are allotted for what is seen as the most vital and ethical part of the learning process.

The introduction of clubs of every kind and nature has been a welcome innovation. Once a week the last two periods are given over to club activities. These include dance, classical singing, drama, indoor games and a host of other hobbies and activities. These clubs contribute to the holistic nature of the curriculum, making children all rounded human beings.

“In service training for teachers ensures that teachers become more professional both in content and methodology” says Mrs. Sheel. Checks and balances have been established with Subject Coordinators and Team leaders to ensure that there is uniformity in teaching. Cooperative learning has been introduced although this is still at a trial stage. Check out this site for further details anon!
