St. Columba’s School
promotes the harmonious growth of the whole person – a syntheses of faith,
life and culture. Set up in 1941, SCS is a dream school, an ornament to the
city of New Delhi, a monument to the educational zeal of the Christian
Brothers. It imparts love and appreciation of the spiritual values of life
that lie beyond all thinking and all actions – that lie at the very base of
civilized society.
At SCS, personal contact and the subtle influence exercised by good teachers
reacts on the mind of the boy and steadies him amid the fluctuations and
aberrations of modern day life. Just as an appropriate support to a sapling
allows it to blossom into a perfectly shaped tree, so does SCS’ support and
help make a person’s future and enable him to do well in life.
SCS offers educational opportunity to boys from all communities,
irrespective of caste, religion or social status. It prepares the students
for life with quality education –through the combined effort of the
Principal, the Brothers, the teachers and the students. It inculcates a
sense of discipline and dedication, with an appreciation of personal
dignity. The Columban family is one community, which strives to make people
sensitive and compassionate human beings. It also believes in acknowledging
its shortcomings and seeking the growth that God’s healing brings to all. At
SCS, a sense of pride emanates from every person- stemming not from wealth,
position, parental prestige or superior knowledge but coming from a true
understanding and appreciation of one’s capabilities. The dynamism in SCS
boys is to be seen to be believed in – with their unbounded potential, their
ability to organize, their creativity to discover and their courage to dare.
SCS has a faculty of well-trained, communicative and knowledgeable teachers
who have the time, the inclination and the compassion to sit and talk, who
have breadth of knowledge, like the Christian Brothers, and where teaching
is not clinical exercise but an act of love. They believe that all youth
need a supportive environment of good relationships based on trust, respect
and empathy if they are to grow into responsible, honest, warm and caring
adults.
SCS has facilities for
remedial and special education in the Junior and Middle wings, for students
with learning disabilities. It has recently taken into its fold, even a
couple of students who are differently abled. SCS is easily the first and
the only institution in the city with a vibrant, active and effective value
education programs. Its Science and Computer Labs are equipped with modern
appliances and latest machines to promote initiative and discovery so
necessary for growth. There is a wider scope for creativity on the part of
teachers here as they use innovative methods of teaching through slide
shows, transparencies with OHP screening, LCD displays, computer help-outs,
out-side school excursions to sites, resource people coming in for talks,
workshops and seminars besides in-house orientation programs.
At SCS there is an atmosphere of openness- in policies, in dialogue
between the different levels working here and in attitudes. The direct
approach of Brothers with their willingness to work, their unending drive
and their constant support is manifest in the attitudes of the teachers and
boys too. The Columban family lives together in harmony, sharing a wider
vision and expressing it in ways that are life-giving.
